Murder/Suicide in Wapiti

Written by on August 7, 2018

A Wapiti resident is dead and her husband is in the hospital after authorities say he shot her, then attempted suicide.
On Sunday, August 5th, 75-year-old Donna Klingbiel was shot by her husband, Dennis, who then took an overdose of prescription drugs. That’s according to a news release from the Park County Sheriff’s Office. Dispatch received a call about the incident just before 10 p.m. Sunday from the couple’s son, Mark, who lives in Florida, saying that his father had just called him and said he had shot his wife and then took pills with the intention of killing himself.
Authorities responded to the home on the North Fork Highway west of Wapiti, and found both victims still alive. Donna was flown to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, where she died from her injuries. Dennis is currently hospitalized in Cody, but under close guard from the Sheriff’s Office, pending charges.
The case is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
