Take ACTION to Reach Your Goals

Written by on January 31, 2019

You can’t wish your way to a more active lifestyle. You can’t wish your way to better health. You need to take charge of your own actions and make it happen! I’m Wendy Corr, and in today’s Wellness Tip, I’ll give you some ways to take ACTION towards reaching your health goals.

We all WANT to be healthier. We look at pictures of active, fit people in magazines, or watch our favorite actor on TV, and WISH we could look like that. But in reality, it takes work to create the level of health that we aspire to! Fortunately, it’s not out of our reach – but it does mean taking action daily.

So where do we start? We start by setting a specific goal, like packing a healthy lunch each day instead of going out to eat. Or committing to a workout four days a week.

An action plan really is the best way to go. You can find lots of various health trackers online that fit your lifestyle and your goals – print one off and you’re ready to start!

Then you take those action steps! Keep a record of what you eat, so you can track your progress. Seek out recipes for healthy meals, and then actually make them instead of just collecting ideas. Go for a walk around the block or around your workplace at lunch, and work to increase your activity level.

Remember, all good plans need room for flexibility – so after the first week or so, assess your progress and see if your plan is easy to stick to. If you find it’s too complicated, or too strict at first, make adjustments, then increase your level of commitment every week until you really begin to see the changes! When you can feel the difference in your body, you become more motivated to continue.

So, what can you do right away? Baby steps are always a good starting point. Add fresh fruits and veggies to today’s meals. Choose a salad instead of a burger at the drive thru. To be more active, call a friend and plan to take a walk around the block, or down by the river. Hiking, biking, swimming at the Rec… there are lots of activity choices, especially where we live here!

Don’t take the defeatist attitude and think there’s nothing that you can do to be healthier. All it takes is a little planning and a lot of want-to!
