Tree Struck by Lightning in Downtown Cody

A fast-moving storm Saturday afternoon gave quite a fright to residents and visitors in downtown Cody.
A bolt of lightning struck a tall cottonwood tree at the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, during the storm that brought torrential rain and some hail to the area.
A Facebook post by an employee at the Chamber shows bark and other debris strewn around the grassy area next to the historic Chamber building, and a wide strip of the interior of the tree exposed in several places.
No one was hurt, although other Facebook users made comments about the noise and the intensity of the lightning strike right in Cody’s downtown.
