What’s Your “Why?”

Written by on April 18, 2017

When you are trying to eat healthy, to get your workout done, to make good choices, it’s so easy to get sidetracked or lose your motivation… unless you remind yourself why you decided to take this path in the first place! I’m Wendy Corr, with your daily wellness tip.

It’s springtime, and you realize summer is just around the corner… along with shorts and swimsuit weather! Or, it’s the beginning of the year, and you’re making your New Year’s Resolutions. Or, you just came back from a doctor’s visit, and he or she told you that you need to make some serious changes to your lifestyle. Whatever your reason, we all face these moments at some point in our lives! So we go on a diet, or we join a gym, or we meet with a nutritionist, and we do great for a while… then one day the call of the golden arches is too overwhelming, and we fall off the path, which is enough to make us give up the positive changes we were making.

Sound familiar? What went wrong? Why aren’t we able to keep our motivation going long enough to experience the true benefits of living a healthier lifestyle?

What’s missing… is your WHY.

When we fall away from our purpose, it’s generally because we aren’t reminding ourselves EVERY DAY why it is we started on this journey!

What was it that compelled you to take the big step? Was it the thought of falling prey to the same illness that might have taken a loved one from you too early? Was it the scare of having a stroke or a heart attack? Is there a family event coming up that you want to look or feel your best for?

Personally, I have a few “Why”-s. First and foremost, I need to be a positive role model for my nutrition clients. It is important to me that they know that you can go from a terribly unhealthy weight to a healthy one, and keep it off for years, just like I have done! Second, I’m an entertainer, so looking my best is important to me, and I need energy to do two shows a day plus get up early for my radio job! And third, I want my children to eat healthy and exercise, so it’s important that I model that behavior for them.

So keep your “WHY” in mind always! Write yourself notes and leave them wherever you need them – the dashboard of your car, the refrigerator door, the pantry… or put up pictures that remind you of where you’ve been, and where you’re going!
