Wyoming Cowgirls can be the Cinderella Story
Written by Mac Morey on March 22, 2021
The Wyoming Cowgirls have had an excellent season up to now and tonight they will look to continue their fantastic run against the UCLA bruins in round 1 of the tournament in what could be a 14 v 3 upset special.
In what was a strange season for everyone with COVID-19 protocols, the Cowgirls suffered as well with their last five games in February getting canceled.
Since those cancellations, they have gone on a four game win streak battling through the conference tournament and three of those wins came by 15 points or more.
Wyoming’s Mountain West Tournament Championship is the first in program history. The
Cowgirls become the first team in either the men’s or women’s bracket to win four games in four
nights and as the No. 7 seed, becomes the lowest-seeded tourney champion in history.
The two main ladies for UCLA to watch tonight are Charisma Osborne and Michaela Onyenwere. They combine for over 35 points a game and lead the team in field goals attempted.
The Bruins as a whole shoot the ball well from beyond the arc at 36 percent so Wyoming’s close outs are going to be an important thread in tonight’s matchup.
The game will start at 8PM mountain time and it is being played in Austin, Texas.
Tommi Olson, a Worland native leads the team in rebounds and assists as the junior point guard of the squad. Our own Chance Bond got to talk over the phone with Olson about how it is being a Cowgirl basketball player.
Let’s make sure to watch and cheer on the Wyoming Cowgirls tonight!
