Written by Wendy Corr on March 9, 2017
Too much sugar consumption can lead to many health dangers, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer… and it is one of the most addictive substances on the planet! So how do you break the hold that sugar has on you? I’m Wendy Corr, with your Daily Wellness Tip!
If you are overweight, crave sugar and carbs, and have trouble losing weight, then you may have a sugar addiction!
It’s been proven that sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine or heroin. It is the most accepted drug on the planet – which is one of the reasons why we, as a society, have seen skyrocketing rates of obesity and diabetes.
Americans consume more soft drinks per capita than any other country on earth, which add to our country’s excessive obesity and diabetes rates.
But sugar is found in so much more than just soda- 80% of the foods in supermarkets have added sugar! From spaghetti sauce to breakfast cereal, sugar is in almost every processed food on the shelves. That’s what makes it so hard to break its hold on our bodies!
But WHY should we cut out sugar? I mean, really, it’s sooo good, how can it be bad for us?
Well, just for starters, it has no essential nutrients and is bad for your teeth. It can overload and damage your liver. Sugar is also a major contributor to the growth of cancer cells in your body. It also raises your cholesterol, which contributes to heart disease.
Now that you’ve heard the down side… here’s the good news! You can KICK your sugar addiction for good – in just ten days!
But how to start?
First, you have to decide to do it! That sounds simple, but it’s actually the most important step!
Then you’ve got to go cold turkey. Keeping a little in your diet just contributes to your cravings.
Remember, don’t drink your calories – beverages are one of the most significant sources of added sugar!
Power up with protein – it can help to counter the effects of the sugar detox.
Eat unlimited non-starchy veggies like carrots, zucchini, tomatoes, spinach, kale and other green vegetables.
Avoid starchy veggies like potatoes and beans, and minimize your intake of grains, which convert quickly to sugar in our bodies.
Have healthy fats at every meal, like avocados or raw, unsalted nuts, and prepare an emergency food pack so you’re never caught without a healthy snack!
Cut out gluten and dairy, and get plenty of sleep.
Follow these guidelines for ten days, and you’ll be blissfully sugar-free!
