The Cody Cubs played host to the World Baseball Showcases one final time on Sunday as they concluded play at the Lions Wood Bat Tournament.
The Cubs would come away with a 9-5 win on the afternoon as they came away with their 20th win of the season.
In what was a busy but fun week of baseball where the Cubs had games in 6 of the last 7 days Cody would finish the week with a 5-3 record vs. the World. Cody would also go 3-2 at their own Wood Bat Tourney.
Sunday’s game started with a bang as the World would plate 2 in the top of the first. Cody answered right back, scoring 5 of their own in the opening inning behind RBI singles from Dominic Phillips, Miles Bailey and Jace Jarret.
Bailey collected his first win of the season, coming on in relief and tossed 3 innings while giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and struck out 2.
Cody would tack on 2 more runs in the 3rd, had 1 in the 4th and added some insurance in the 6th for the win.
Jarrett and Eli Johnston each collected a pair of hits in the contest.
The Cubs would get the Lion’s Wood Bat Tournament underway Friday afternoon with an 8-1 win over the World.
