Small Changes Make a Big Difference

Written by on January 8, 2019

Sometimes the idea of making changes to your health just seems overwhelming. I mean, really, where do you start? I’m Wendy Corr, and in today’s wellness tip, I’ll give you some small changes that will equal big results!

When I’m working with my nutrition clients, we start with some basics – swapping out processed food for whole foods, and adding just a bit more exercise than what they’re currently doing.
But here are a few specific steps YOU can take starting TODAY that will make a big difference in the long run!
First – move during commercial breaks on TV. Even though many of us have packed schedules, most people can find the time to watch TV. Commercial breaks offer an ideal time to squeeze in brief doses of exercise, which have similar health benefits to doing longer workouts! Also, take a short walk on your lunch break, and take the stairs whenever possible – even these small tasks add up over the course of a day.
Eat at least one piece of fruit each day, and add one vegetable to every meal. The more fruits and veggies you can get in your diet, the lower your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and other illness!
Use a smaller plate – you’ll automatically reduce your portion sizes, which can help prevent digestive problems and high blood sugar levels. Watch your portion sizes for alcohol, as well – just 5 ounces of wine is the recommended amount for health benefits. And speaking of beverages, add lemon to your water – not only will it taste better, it helps to detoxify your body; and you are likely to drink more water throughout the day.
And finally, don’t let yourself get hungry – it could lead to overeating later on. Small meals and snacks throughout the day are the key.
These are just a few small changes you can make every day that will lead to a healthier future!
