Track for Success!

Written by on January 9, 2019

When it comes to weight loss, tracking how much you eat and exercise is the key to success! If you don’t know what and how much you’re eating, or how often and how intense you’re working out, how will you know where you need to make changes? I’m Wendy Corr, with your daily wellness tip.
Just like money management, scheduling and other business tasks, writing down key information is necessary if you want to succeed. I mean, you wouldn’t be very successful if you didn’t know how much money was going in and out of your business, would you? The same goes with your health. If you want to lose weight, you need to track and account for the food you eat, and measure your progress.
What are the advantages to tracking?
Well, when you record what you eat, you tend to eat less. Think about it – you’re less likely to take that bite of a candy bar if you know you have to write it down!
You’ll also find yourself exercising more, and enjoying it! Fitbits and other step counters work because they track how many steps you’ve taken during the day – it’s a challenge you set for yourself, and you get rewarded for reaching your goal. And you can compete with others online using your fitness trackers, which for some people adds extra incentive.
When you track what you eat, and you stay consistent, it helps when you find yourself on a plateau. When you can look back at what you’ve eaten and at your workout record, and know you’ve done everything right, you can relax because you know weight loss is coming – or, if you haven’t done everything right, you can see where you’ve gone astray and make corrections!
And recording your eating and exercise habits can help you when you’ve had a cheat meal, or a cheat day – if you write down how much you ate when you went off track, then you can adjust your future meals to account for the extra food and still know you’re on the road to weight loss.
